No News On 2011/12 NBA Basketball Cards ... Yet

Edit: Haha, the day we publish this, we get news on the Panini America Blog that NBA cards are coming in February 2012.

Rarely does no news actually make the news, but in this case it does. With the lockout shortened NBA season, Panini (the official maker of NBA basketball cards) has yet to announce any new information on this years set. With some of the new rookies already seeing significant time in pre-season games, fans are excited about Kemba Walker, Jimmer Fredette and others.

We expect the first set to be 2011/12 Prestige Basketball, as that has been the set Panini has used in the past 2 seasons to kick off the new year. Our guess is that they have just been able to acquire some signatures of key rookies, and many players are just now signing with new teams because of the lockout ... but we can only speculate.

Once these cards go live - it will be interesting to see how the values turn out. Typically all rookies are pretty collectible in their first season, only to cool off as they don't live up to the expectations. We'll see how this years 11/12 NBA rookie class pans out, but expect the prices to be inflated for a period of time because of the lack of releases.

Hopefully we hear something about a 2011/12 Panini Basketball set soon, it will be interesting to see all the new rookie players.
