- Feature a beautiful Indian Princess Head

These coins feature: 90% Gold (.04837oz) and 10% Copper
Gold dollar coins have always been collected by numismatists over the years for their beauty, gold content and overall value. The earliest United States gold dollar coins are often categorized as Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3.

Type 1: 1849 - 1854 - Features a Liberty Head
Type 2:
1854 - 1856 - Features a small Indian Princess Head
Type 3:
1856 - 1889 - Features a large Indian Princess Head

A design change in 1854 proved difficult for the United States Mint to strike these newly designed gold coins well enough for them to achieve top grades today. This has lead to very few mint-state examples in circulation over the years, and makes Type 2 gold dollars some of the most valuable.
